New Wireless Changes Could Effect Your Fire Alarm And Notification System

AT&T is cutting the 2G network from their service starting 2016. This might be trouble for outdated fire alarm and notification systems.

According to the recent ESA E-Alert, AT&T is the first wireless carrier that has established a firm timetable for pulling the plug on outdated communications technology, setting a “sunset” deadline for discontinuation of its 2G network by Dec. 31, 2016. ESA wants your business to know an outdated alarm system will not work and emphasizes the need for security dealers to turn their attention to more advanced cellular alarm communications and data transmission.

In an Aug. 3 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), AT&T said it will gradually move exclusively to 3G and 4G networks and devices on a market-by-market basis as the date approaches.

This will effect major businesses because of fire alarm & notification systems that are attached to the already in place networks running on 2G. If your company has not already made the switch, we can help.
